This young couple loves Colorado for its numerous outdoor activities and undeniable beauty. Therefore, a desire to incorporate the outdoors in the renovation of their new home began by eliminating the choppy interior walls in the house’s existing floorplan. A driving force in the kitchen’s design was maintaining the home’s panoramic views of the mountainous Colorado landscape.

Simplistic form coupled with distinctive material selection, make this one of a kind. Japanese influence was integrated in the open shelving and asymmetrical balance of the rear wall. Although modern inspired, this kitchen’s design achieves a welcoming ambience through a mixture of warm hues and textures. The bamboo plank flooring with natural finish successfully contrasts the brushed aluminum toe kicks, simple stainless steel hardware, and vertically grained African mahogany cabinetry. Honed granite countertops glow underneath the glass blown amber halogen pendant lights. A wood countertop in the prep area makes a great spot for washing and chopping fresh vegetables. The back of the island features a textured vertical metal laminate inspired by oxidized copper. Making efficient use of floorspace, the island functions on all sides. The front features a 48” gas cooktop, the back increases in height to 42” accommodating three stools for visiting guests or a quick breakfast. On the eastside, a glass hutch piece and wine cubbies create architectural interest and variety in textures. The westside features a cleverly integrated microwave and additional cookware storage.
